This guide explains how to connect Sortlist to WhatsApp using Zapier, so that you receive automatic notifications when new opportunities appear.
We’ve prepared a Zapier template to make it super easy to get started:

🔧 Step 1. Open the Template
Click the Zapier template link above.
Log in to your Zapier account (or create one if you don’t have it).
You’ll see the Zap with pre-configured steps.
🔧 Step 2. Connect Your Apps
Sortlist – Connect your Sortlist account so Zapier can pull opportunity data.
WhatsApp Notifications – Connect the WhatsApp number where you want to receive alerts.
You’ll see it under App: WhatsApp Notifications.
Make sure the correct number is connected.
🔧 Step 3. Configure the WhatsApp Message
Choose the template – Select the pre-approved WhatsApp message template (for example:
New Messageormessage_reminder).Fill in variables:
Name → A short title, e.g.
New Sortlist opportunity. (Keep it simple, no line breaks or extra words)Link to reply → Map the
Opportunity Linkfrom Sortlist. This must be a valid URL (e.g.,https://app.sortlist.com/opportunities/12345).
⚠️ Important:
The URL must start with
https://.No spaces or hidden characters.
The name field must stay under 1,024 characters.
🔧 Step 4. Test the Zap
Click Test & Review in Zapier.
You should see the WhatsApp message preview.
If you get an error like “Invalid parameter provided to WhatsApp API”:
Refresh the fields (three dots → Refresh fields).
Re-enter a simple
Name(e.g.Sortlist).Check the URL formatting.
🔧 Step 5. Turn It On
Once the test is successful:
Click Publish & Turn on Zap.
You’re done 🎉 – you’ll now get a WhatsApp notification every time a new Sortlist opportunity is created.
✅ Troubleshooting Tips
Template mismatch: Make sure the Zapier template name matches the approved WhatsApp template name in your account.
Name too long: Keep the name short (avoid line breaks).
URL issues: Use a clean URL from Sortlist, no formatting.
Cache issues: If errors persist, reconnect your WhatsApp account in Zapier and refresh fields.
